Mental Illness and Crisis Communication Strategies
Educational Objectives:
•  Understand mental illness basics including identifying general signs and symptoms
•  Learn communication strategies for working with someone experiencing acute signs and  symptoms or in crisis
•  Learn how to involve mental health professionals, crisis teams and law enforcement
•  Be able to locate at least three suicide prevention resources for future education
•  Learn at least three resources to support people with emerging or acute mental health symptoms
A certificate of attendance is available for this class and will be sent after you fill out the evaluation.

Together, We Can Make it OK
The Make It OK campaign was created through collaboration between NAMI Minnesota, HealthPartners, Regions Hospital, Twin Cities Public Television and other community stakeholders who have pledged their commitment to change hearts and minds about the misperceptions of mental illnesses by encouraging open conversations and education on the topic.  This presentation proclaims that it is time to spread the word, stop the silence and Make It OK.

Gray Matters: Understanding Depression in Older Adults
Feelings of sadness, loneliness and grief are normal. However, when this sadness is intense, is felt for a long period of time, interferes with our ability to get along with others or to carry out the activities of everyday life…..than it could be depression. Join NAMI Minnesota to talk about risk factors, warning signs, stigma, discrimination, treatment, recovery and resources for depression in older adults.  Suicide prevention resources will also be discussed. Depression is not a normal part of aging. A certificate of attendance is available for this class and will be sent after you fill out the evaluation.

QPR for Agricultural Communities
NAMI Minnesota and the Upper Midwest Agricultural Safety and Health Center (UMASH) are partnering to provide suicide prevention classes tailored to farming communities. Our aim is to change the public perception in agricultural communities and better equip the community to identify and help people who may be having thoughts of suicide. We offer a one hour suicide prevention program called QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) to help individuals learn the three steps anyone can take to help prevent a suicide.

In Our Own Voice
Class Description: Understand the journey of people with mental illness in recovery. IOOV is a unique public education program in which a trained speaker shares a compelling personal story about living with a mental illness and achieving recovery, demonstrating that there is hope for recovery for people with mental illnesses. The presentation includes personal stories and video clips, as well as offering an opportunity to ask questions. The IOOV program has touched many lives and is effective in reducing the stigma surrounding mental illnesses. This 60-minute class is for any group interested in learning more about mental illnesses and recovery.

Ending the Silence
NAMI Minnesota, in partnership with Mental Health Connect, will be presenting Ending the Silence. Ending the Silence is a presentation for high school students that talks mental health, mental illness, suicide prevention, where to find help, and how to end the silence around mental illness. It concludes with a young adult telling their story about their journey living with mental illness. This presentation is for high school students. Parents, caregivers, and people that work with youth welcome!

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR)
Learn the three steps anyone can take to help prevent suicide. Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives. QPR is the most widely taught gatekeeper training program in the United States, and more than one million adults have been trained in classroom settings in 48 states. This class is for members of the community over the age of 16 who want to learn best practices in suicide prevention. A certificate of attendance is available for this class and will be sent after you fill out the evaluation.
